HyFAR-ARA is a non-profit association bringing together public institutions, research and higher-education organizations, and industrial companies with a shared interest in hypersonic systems and their applications.

Founded in 1999, the association initially focused on atmospheric re-entry, particularly in the fields of space transportation and planetary exploration. Its scope has since broadened to encompass related topics, including space-debris re-entry, hypersonic flight vehicles, and reusable launch systems.

HyFAR-ARA’s main objectives are to promote the expertise of its members, strengthen cooperation within the community, support the development of collaborative scientific and technological research projects, inform institutional and economic stakeholders, and raise awareness among students and the wider public of space activities and high-speed flight.

To fulfil these objectives, the association organizes workshops, conferences and scientific events, contributes expert advice, supports outreach initiatives, and delivers educational lectures. Among its recent achievements, HyFAR-ARA co-organized with the European Space Agency the 3rd International Conference on Flight Vehicles, Aerothermodynamics and Re-entry, held in Arcachon, France, from 18 to 22 May 2025. The conference brought together the international community and was widely regarded as a successful event.

As of 1 July 2026, HyFAR-ARA’s members are ArianeGroup, CEA, CNES, CNRS, Inria, ONERA, R.Tech, the University of Bordeaux, and the University of Limoges.

est une association à but non lucratif qui regroupe des institutions publiques, des organismes de recherche et d’enseignement, ainsi que des entreprises industrielles partageant un intérêt commun pour les systèmes hypersoniques et leurs applications.

Fondée en 1999, l’association s’est d’abord consacrée à la rentrée atmosphérique, notamment dans le contexte du transport spatial et de l’exploration planétaire. Au fil du temps, son champ d’action s’est élargi à des domaines connexes tels que la rentrée des débris spatiaux, les véhicules de vol hypersonique et les systèmes de lancement réutilisables.

Parmi ses principaux objectifs figurent : la valorisation des compétences de ses membres, le renforcement de la collaboration au sein de la communauté, le soutien à l’émergence de projets communs de recherche scientifique et technologique, l’information des acteurs institutionnels et économiques, ainsi que la sensibilisation des étudiants et du grand public aux domaines de l’espace et du vol à grande vitesse.

Parmi ses actions (liste non exhaustive) : l’organisation d’ateliers et de conférences, la fourniture d’expertises, les actions de sensibilisation et l’animation de conférences ou de cours.
