Training Session - Remote microphone techniques for the characterization of aeroacoustic sources
Monday 23 January 2023 - Thursday 26 January 2023The first training session of the European Academy of Aeroacoustics (EA2) (https://www.tudelft.nl/lr/european-academy-of-aeroacoustics) will be held on 23-26 January 2023, at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI). The topic of the first training course is "Remote microphone techniques for the characterization of aeroacoustic sources".
This unique four-day training will cover the necessary theoretical background on wave propagation, sensor calibration, design practices, data post-processing, etc. But in contrast with other courses and lecture series, the participants will be actively practicing through supervised lab sessions, implementing different sensors (electret and condenser microphones) in various configurations (flush-mounted, recessed behind a pinhole-cavity or as a side-branch with anechoic termination). Python routines developed by the lecturers will be demonstrated and shared with the participants, for the processing and analysis of the calibration data and their comparison with the models.
The training course will be suitable for PhD students, postdocs and research/test engineers interested in accurate measurement of surface pressure fluctuations, with application to aeroacoustics, fundamental turbulence and boundary layers, flow control, unsteady aerodynamics, etc. Given the organization of laboratory sessions, a maximum of 36 participants will be accepted, on a first-come-first-served basis.
