The Lecture series will focus on particulate flows, i.e. solid particles in a fluid (mostly gas). The Lecture series objective is to provide an overview of the current state of the art for modeling numerically this type of flow as well as a description of the measurement techniques, both intrusive and non-intrusive. Several examples of particulate flows like pneumatic conveying, sand mitigation measures, but also particle separation, will illustrate the different experimental and numerical metods presented. The Lecture Series will be organized as follow; the first day will be dedicated to a general introduction into multiphase flows as well as the multiphase numerical simulation strategies: from an overview perspective to more specific applications of LES and DNS, up to new modeling strategies. The second and third day will be organized half in description of measurement techniques for particulate flows: both intrusive, and non intrusive with a focus on optical methods and electrical impedance, and half by examples of particulate flows: pneumatic conveying, sand mitigation, and particle separation. This ONLINE lecture series is part of the IPANEMA project which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 755645.
The Directors of this lecture series are Professor Tony Arts and professor Delphine Laboureur of the von Karman Institute.
