The objective of this Lecture Series notes is to review the latest developments and achievements in the field of computational techniques as applied to turbomachinery flows. Standard and advanced techniques currently used on a routine basis both in the academic and industrial environment are revised, and their merits and shortcoming analyzed on the basis of test problems of practical engineering relevance.
More specifically, this Lecture Series proceedings first address the fundamental aspects and an overview of the techniques with special emphasis on accuracy, grid convergence, robustness, computational cost and ease of implementation. Several notes then review and discuss in details the various aspects of eddy viscosity and Reynolds stress modeling for turbomachinery flows. A special lecture note is also devoted to the challenging issue of transition modeling. Large eddy simulation capabilities in turbomachinery computations are addressed, from a general as well as from a practical applicability point of view. Finally, the state-of-the-art in unsteady computations in turbomachinery is reviewed.
The Lecture Series proceedings are intended to offer to young researchers entering the turbomachinery field a wide and comprehensive view of the currently available computational tools for the aero-thermal performance prediction of modern systems.
The Lecture Series co-directors are Prof. M. Manna from the University of Naples Federico II and Prof. T. Arts from the von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics.
