Online / on-site Lecture Series - Aerodynamics of Wind Turbines: State of the Art and Future Perspectives

Monday 05 September 2022 - Friday 09 September 2022

Aerodynamics of Wind Turbines: State of the Art and Future Perspectives

In the last two decades, wind turbines experienced an extraordinary increase of +275% in the installed global power capacity and a steady decrement in energy cost.

Notwithstanding this consolidated success, the efficiency and the cost-effectiveness enhancement of wind energy conversion systems is still considered of paramount importance in the progressive green transition towards a climate-neutral economy, so much that wind turbines and their aerodynamics are still at the edge of the technological research.

The objective of this Lecture Series is to review the state-of-the-art on wind-turbines aerodynamics as well as to address the most relevant future perspective about these issues in terms of R&D.

A great attention will be devoted to classical aerodynamic theories and engineering methods, advances in the numerical and experimental analysis of wind turbines and their wakes, aerodynamic and structural design, wind farms, noise generation, and vertical-axis rotors.

The Lecture Series directors are Dr. Rodolfo Bontempo and Prof. Marcello Manna from the University of Naples Federico II, and Prof. Tom Verstraete from the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics.
