Lifting  surfaces of an aircraft consist of several elements assembled together. Filler materials are routinely applied into the gaps left in between the different pieces. Since these fillers tend to retract during the curing process, small notches are unavoidably present on the surface. In this contribution  we present a stability analysis of a boundary layer flow over an indented surface. This configuration may be considered a simplified, local representation of the aforementioned lifting  device.

In this study we focus specifically  on the effect a single indentation has on the flow field and its associated linear stability characteristics.
