Fascinating day of discovery in extraordinary laboratories and wind tunnels On Sunday November 26th, 2023 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the VKI will open its doors to the public. It’s a special occasion to discover laboratories normally close for public, and world-unique wind tunnels like the Plasmatron, which simulates the conditions of the reentry of a spatial vehicle in the atmosphere or the Longshot, a Mach 14 hypersonic free piston tunnel for aerothermodynamic data basing of earth re-entry vehicles. Participants will be guided through a maze of scientific labs and wind tunnels. Children, aged 8 and over, are welcome to take part and learn about aerodynamics through experiments tailored to their age group.

Boeiende ontdekkingsdag in de buitengewone windtunnels and laboratoria Op zondag 26 november 2023 van 10 tot 16 uur, opent het VKI zijn deuren voor het grote publiek. Het is een unieke gelegenheid om “verboden” plaatsen te ontdekken zoals de Longshot, een hogesnelheidswindtunnel voor hypersone testen tot 14 keer de geluidsnelheid, of de Plasmatron, een plasma generator die thermische belasting simuleert gedurende de terugkeer van een ruimtetuig in de atmosfeer. Deelnemers worden rondgeleid door een labyrint van unieke windtunnels en laboratoria. Kinderen vanaf 8 jaar zijn welkom om deel te nemen en te leren over aerodynamica door middel van experimenten die zijn afgestemd op hun leeftijdsgroep.

Journée de découverte fascinante dans des laboratoires et souffleries extraordinaires Le dimanche 26 novembre 2023 de 10h00 à 16h00, le VKI ouvrira ses portes au grand public. C'est une occasion unique de découvrir un lieu normalement interdit au public, qui abrite de nombreuses installations scientifiques de pointe. Certaines d’entre elles sont uniques au monde, telles que le Longshot, une soufflerie à rafales capable de simuler des conditions d’écoulement hypersoniques atteignant 14 fois la vitesse du son, ou encore le Plasmatron qui permet de reproduire les conditions thermiques extrêmes rencontrées lors de la réentrée d’un véhicule spatial dans l’atmosphère. Les participants seront guidés à travers un labyrinthe de des souffleries et des laboratoires uniques. Les enfants, dès 8 ans, sont les bienvenus et pourront découvrir l’aérodynamique au travers d’expériences adaptées à leur âge.
Les visites et expériences se dérouleront au choix en français, néerlandais ou anglais. Pour visiter l'Institut, vous devrez vous munir de votre carte d'identité et/ou de votre passeport.
