At the occasion of the Belgian State visit to the Republic of Korea, the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI) and Keyyang Precision (KYPC) have signed a new agreement entering into force this 27 March 2019 to foster a long-term cooperation on mutually beneficial activities in the area of turbomachinery.

The agreement, in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, formalises the mutual interaction and strengthens the existing collaboration between Keyyang Precision Co. and the von Karman Institute, focusing but not limited to:
- Aerodynamic design of new mixed flow and radial compressor and turbine architectures for automotive turbocharging;
- Matching of radial compressor and turbine for turbocharger applications; and
-Thermal management of turbocharger systems, and prediction of high-cycle fatigue.

Peter Grognard, Managing Director of the von Karman Institute, said: “Since the first visit in 2014, KYPC and VKI have been continuing cooperation. Through this exchange, we had the opportunity to understand each other and had our engineer dispatched to receive advanced education in VKI. Through this MOU, I sincerely hope that VKI and Keyyang Precision will have further research and achievements in turbomachinery.

The Keyyang Precision engages in the research and development, manufacture, and sale of turbochargers in South Korea. The company offers waste gate turbochargers that control pressure through the waste gate valve and prevent overload of engine; and variable geometry turbochargers, which control the engine operation range, as well as enhance acceleration, output, and fuel efficiency. Its turbochargers are used in diesel and gasoline passenger vehicles, as well as in commercial vehicles. The company also exports its products to 30 countries. Key Yang Precision Co., Ltd. was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Gimcheon, South Korea.
