 SmartAnswer

This Online lecture series is part of the SmartAnswer project which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 722401.

A step change in our noise mitigation strategies is required in order to meet the environmental targets or regulations defined for a number of sectors of activity affecting people through noise exposure, such as transportation, building ventilation systems and wind energy production. Besides being a hindrance to our daily life, noise emission is also a competitive issue for industrial stakeholders aiming at better passenger comfort, and quieter domestic appliances in our homes and working places.

New concepts and technological solutions have been emerging over the recent years, triggered by new manufacturing possibilities and a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in aerodynamic noise generation, propagation through duct systems, and transmission through flexible structures. Some of the most promising mitigation technologies will be addressed in a series of lectures given by international experts in their field, who will explain the rationale behind those technologies starting from first principles, together with the technological challenges to overcome towards their implementation in the final applications. The lectures will be punctuated with practical examples of applications relevant to various fields including ducted systems, rotating machineries (ventilation systems, wind turbines and aeroengines), or lightweight low-transmission panels. The course will conclude with a live demonstration of some technologies on a dedicated didactic test bench developed in the framework of the H2020 MSCA project SmartAnswer.

The Director of this lecture series is Professor Christophe Schram of the von Karman Institute.

An online workshop on the H2020 project "SmartAnswer:Smart mitigation of flow-induced acoustic radiation and transmission for reduced aircraft, surface transport, workplaces and wind energy noise" is organized on Thursday 26 November from 9:00 to 17:00. This workshop is free and open to the public. If you are not registred to the lecture series itself, there is a specific registration for the workshop only. For the participants to the lecture series, it is not needed to register to the workshop.
