Introduction
Progress achieved in the modeling of thermohydraulic phenomena and in the development of robust and efficient numerical techniques makes the application of the computational approach to the investigation of complex flows in situations of industrial interest feasible. This lecture Series presents the state-of-the-art of computational solutions to industrial fluid dynamics problems.
The first session is devoted to an introductory overview of industrial CFD. Basic lectures describe the efficient and robust schemes/methods, which can be used for a range of flows from incompressible and low speed to high speed and for steady and unsteady problems. Emphasis is given to turbulence modeling and its effect on the simulation. Additional sessions specifically address practical applications and the issue of the practicability of the technology by presenting results of industrial simulations.
By its nature and content, the course is addressed to all industrial users and research laboratories which are interested in acquiring and/or developing a predictive capability in the domain of fluid flow problems, as well as to researchers interested in the application of CFD to solving practical problems in an industrial context.
The Lecture Series co-directors are Jean-Marie Buchlin and Philippe Planquart from the von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics.

For PhD candidates and undergraduate students: The request to be considered for a discount must accompany the application to attend the Lecture Series, and the applicant must provide a recommendation letter from his or her professor; if not, the request will not be taken into consideration. All possible alternative sources of funding should be investigated before aid is requested under this scheme, so that those most in need will benefit.
