59th Graduation Ceremony

The 59th graduation ceremony of the Research Master in Fluid Dynamics took place at the von Karman Institute this 3th of July 2015.

The ceremony started with Dr. Jean Muylaert and its introductory remarks and report on the current academic year. This was followed by the speech of Professor Jean-Pierre Contzen, chairman of the VKI Board of Directors who congratulated the graduates on behalf of the VKI Board of Directors. Then Major General Albert Husniaux, on behalf of NATO’s Science and Technology Organization, stressed the importance of VKI for the NATO countries. Prof. Jean-Jacques Dordain, former Director General of the European Space Agency, made an inspiring speech addressed to the Graduates. His speech was followed by the congratulations of Mr. René Delcourt, chairman ad interim of the Federal Science Policy Office and represented by Mrs. Gisèle Roulleaux, member of the VKI Board of Directors.

The director had then the pleasure to announce that:

The Theodore von Karman Prize was attributed to two Graduates: Elissavet Boufidi with her project entitled: "Time-resolved velocity measurements in the wake of a low-pressure turbine blade, at low Reynolds and high Mach number" and Federico Bariselli with his project entitled: "Development of gas-surface interaction models for DSMC methods"

Fernando Miró Miró was awarded the Belgian Government Prize. His project was related to the numerical study of the stability of a hypersonic boundary layer in the presence of blowing.

The Prince Alexandre of Belgium Award for the Best Presentation given by princess Léa de Belgique was attributed to James Braun with a project on "Characterization of complex multi-physics flow in rotating detonation engines".

The Excellence in Experimental Research has been given to Charline Fouchier, while the Excellence in Numerical Research has been given to Valeria Andreoli.

We would like to congratulate the Graduates who received their diplomas:
