Gertjan Glabeke, Engineer at VKI, won the student award for best poster during the Europes premier wind energy event (EWEA 2012) held in April 2012 in Copenhagen.
The wind industry community from across the globe met for four days of business and networking at Europe's premier wind energy event at Copenhagen's Bella Center.
The poster and paper of G. Glabeke were related to his final year thesis on the "influence of wind turbine induced turbulence on ultralight aircraft, a CFD analysis".

The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics has created a common laboratory with Cetim (a technological institute specialised in mechanics) since December 2011. Its name: Ledith (Laboratoire des écoulements diphasiques et technologies hydrauliques, or Two-phase flow and hydraulic technology laboratory).
Thierry Magin, assistant professor in the Aeronautics and Aerospace department, has been invited as J. Tinsley Oden Faculty Fellow to collaborate with Prof. Irene Gamba at ICES at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at the University of Texas at Austin.
Thierry Magin, assistant professor in the Aeronautics and Aerospace department, has been invited for two weeks as J. Tinsley Oden Faculty Fellow to collaborate with Prof. Irene Gamba at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at the University of Texas at Austin.
The program's foremost purpose is to bring in outstanding researchers and scholars to the University of Texas to collaborate with ICES faculty, researchers, and students on advanced research in computational engineering, mathematics, and sciences. The program also hosts internationally renowned specialists who present lectures on new developments while enhancing the stature and visibility of the program. http://www.ices.utexas.edu/programs/visitors/
Dr. Magin and graduate student Alessandro Munafó are collaborating with Dr. Gamba on the development of a deterministic Boltzmann solver for atmospheric entry flows.
Prof. Magin will present two lectures during his stay at UT Austin:
Math/ICES Center of Numerical Analysis Seminar: "Kinetic theory derivation of nonequilibrium hydrodynamic models for atmospheric entry plasmas"
Fluids Seminar in the Aerospace department: "Cooled Pitot probe in inductive air plasma jet: What do we measure?"
