63rd Graduation Ceremony
The 63rd graduation ceremony of the Research Master in Fluid Dynamics took place at the von Karman Institute this 28th of June 2019.
The ceremony started with Mr. Peter Grognard, Managing Director of the von Karman Institute who congratulated the graduates.
This was followed by the speech of His Excellency Pascal Heyman, Permanent Representative of Belgium to NATO who addressed a great speech to the students on behalf of the VKI Board of Directors. Then Dr. Bryan Wells, on behalf of NATO’s Science and Technology Organization, stressed the importance of VKI for the NATO countries.
A special presentation has then be done by Dr. Christopher Chahine, Research Engineer at VKI, who completed his PhD thesis this year. He presented a unique research activity at VKI: "The Quest for Sustainable Thrust - Advanced Design for Future Jet Engine Fan Blades".
His technical presentation was followed by the inspiring speech of Prof. Falk Klinge from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Ostfalia University for Applied Sciences, who succeeded the research master in 2000-2001. He shared his experience at the von Karman Institute with the Graduates and underlined the importance of the balanced combination between the work life and the family life.
The diploma distribution started with the awards.
This ceremony was highlighted by the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Léa of Belgium. She gave Prince Alexandre of Belgium Award for the Best Presentation to Roman Poletti for his project entitled: "Proof of concept by CFD of an aerodynamically controlled capturing device".
The remaining awards and diplomas were distributed by his Excellency Pascal Heyman.
The Theodore von Karman Prize was attributed to Matilde Fiore for her project entitled: "Analysis of the multicomponent diffusion impact on hydrohen issues in water".
Marco Manfredi was awarded the Belgian Government Prize. His project was entitled "Loss correlation and update for low-aspect ratio transonic axial compressors".
The Excellence in Experimental Research has been given to Konstantinos Vratsinis for his project on "Insect impact on leading edge - Study in VKI cold wind tunnel" , while the Excellence in Numerical Research has been given to Enrico Marco Di Marzo for his work on "Multidisciplinary optimization of a U-band".
We would like to congratulate the Graduates who received their diplomas:
