Coorperation Agreement MOD / VKI

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, the Ministry of Defense and the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics signed a cooperation agreement. Represented by the Royal Higher Institute for Defense (IRSD), a key player in Belgium's technological and industrial competitiveness, this partnership aims to bolster Belgian expertise in hypersonic technology and strengthen the Belgian Defense Technological and Industrial Base (BITD - DTIB).

Through this strategic partnership with the von Karman Institute, Belgium seeks to acquire and develop cutting-edge knowledge and industrial know-how in hypersonic technology.

Peter Grognard, Director of the von Karman Institute, stated, "This agreement marks an important new step for VKI. Historically, our campus's infrastructure and research activities were launched over a century ago by the Ministry of Defense. This agreement continues a long tradition of cooperation and officially re-establishes the link between the Ministry of Defense and VKI, which is fully committed to strengthening the Ministry's industrial and technological base. We look forward to this highly fruitful collaboration with IRSD."

This partnership positions Belgium at the forefront of hypersonic technologies, enhancing its technological and security capabilities.
