Instructions for author
Abstracts must be UNCLASSIFIED, PUBLIC RELEASABLE and Non-Proprietary. by Sumitting an abstract and a paper,
you agree that your Abstract is UNCLASSIFIED, Non-Proprietary, and Approved for Public Release with Unlimited Distribution.
Submited abstracts should include a description of the content, conclusion and significance of the proposed presentation.
1. The title page of the paper must specify a subject category, or categories, selected from the STAI indexing guide, a copy of which is attached. (This guide also is included in the distribution of STAI meeting minutes and attachments made annually to all official representatives). The use of additional descriptive keywords is strongly encouraged. The reason behind this request to authors is to facilitate maintenance of the STAI Proceedings Index. Without an author-supplied category for each paper this maintenance task is made considerably more difficult and time-consuming and, in addition, the categories assigned to papers by a third party may not always be those most relevant. Authors who have difficulty classifying their paper under the STAI index categories may wish to add one or more new categories to the existing index, and are encouraged to do so by communicating this information to a member of the Executive Committee.
2. Printing should be in an easily readable and reproducible font, with normal text in 10 or 12-point type.
3. Figures in color are appropriate if the use of color will enhance clarity and information transfer. Figures should be clear and concise. Authors should keep in mind that figures included in the written paper often may be too detailed, busy, or fine-lined for use as effective presentation view-graphs. Where possible the presentation version of such figures should be modified to enhance visual clarity.
4. There are no minimum or maximum limits on paper length. However, since presentations typically are limited to 20 minutes, the STAI encourages considerably greater technical detail than can normally be presented orally. Authors should use their best judgment as to how much is enough. As a guide, STAI papers typically are 10-20 pages in length, including figures.
5. An oral presentation without a supporting paper satisfies the Constitutional requirement regarding member contributions, and is therefore acceptable. It is understood that, on occasion, political or other considerations will make submission of a written paper impossible or impractical. However, an oral presentation alone provides no benefit to members unable to attend, and generally lacks the high level of technical detail both desired and expected by the membership. Therefore, preparation of a supporting paper is strongly encouraged, and is expected in the absence of overriding circumstances. As a minimum, copies of the oral presentation view slides should be submitted for inclusion into the proceedings.
6. Papers, in their final form, should be saved electronically in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). This format, allows anyone with Acrobat Reader software (available free of charge on the WWW) to open your document across a broad range of hardware and software, and it will look exactly as you intended—with layout, fonts, links, and images intact. Files should be saved at the highest resolution, i.e. no compression, and should not be password protected.
7. The naming of electronic presentation files should be as follows:
STAI_meeting #_member designator_presentation number (may have more than one)
Example for 118th Meeting: STAI_118_ARA_1
If member has a 2nd presentation: STAI_118_ARA_2
8. Electronic copies of each presentation and paper shall be provided to the host organizations at the meeting by way of the
