HPC computing

The VKI operates several High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities for Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation. The most performant system is a rack mounted SGI Altix ICE 8200 cluster with 512 Intel Xeon(R) E5420 2.4Ghz cores and 1.5 TB of memory. Two other Beowulf clusters are available operating under Linux, with 250 and 50 processors. The major commercial software packages for Fluid Dynamics simulation (like Fluent, CFD++, CFX, ... ) are available as well as specialized in house developed codes (e.g. COOLFluiD).
