58th graduation day of the Research Master in Fluid Dynamics

The 58th graduation day of the Research Master in Fluid Dynamics took place at VKI this 27th of June 2014.
The ceremony started with Dr. Jean Muylaert and its introductory remarks and report on the Academic Year. This was followed by the speech of Professor Jean-Pierre Contzen, VKI chairman of the Board who congratulated the graduates on behalf of the VKI Board of Directors. Then Major General Albert Husniaux, on behalf of NATO’s Science & Technology Organization, stressed the importance of VKI for the NATO countries. The ceremony was highlited by the speech of Dr. S. ZEMSCH form BMW Group Munich and former Diploma Course student and by the speech given by Professor Herman Deconinck on behalf of Dr. Philippe Mettens, president of the Belgian Science Policy Office who congratulated the new graduates.

We have the pleasure to announce that Sebastian Willeke won the Theodore von Karman Prize with his project entitled: "Adjoint Optimization of an Internal Cooling Channel U-Bend". Aurore Lafond was awarded The Belgian Government Prize. Her project was related to the numerical Modelling of Boiling. The Prince Alexandre of Belgium Award for the Best Presentation given by Princess Léa of Belgium was attributed to Pedro García Carrascal with a project on "Sizing of Irregular Particles using Laser Back-Scattering techniques". The Excellence in Experimental Research has been given to Emre Barlas with a project on "Experimental Investigation of wind turbine / Farm wakes in a Boundary layer wind tunnel". The Excellence in Numerical Research has been given to Tamás Horváth with a project on "Adjoint Based Goal Oriented error Estimation for Adaptive Petrov-Galerkin Finite Element Methods".

We would like to congratulate the graduates who received their diplomas:

After the announcement of the special prizes and the distribution of the diploma, Prof. Claus Sieverding, President VKI Alumni Association addressed to the graduates by the Alumni Association and attributed the Best Collaboration Award to Aude Lahalle.   
 
Finally, Mrs. Aude Lahalle and Mr. Pedro Duarte Santos, members of the Research Master program, gave a vote of thanks to the guests.
