Baron André JaumotteBaron André Jaumotte passed away on Friday 16 December 2016. André Jaumotte has been and will continue to be a great figure of the Institute, who has inspired so many successive generations of scientists and engineers in the world that he will continue to live for long across all of them.

Born in Jambes in 1919, Baron André Jaumotte was not only rector and chairman of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, professor in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics, but  also expert for Belgium and Europe to evaluate the nuclear safety and the non-renewable energy, chairman of the "Internationale Brachet Stiftung" and member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, among his numerous activities.

The King of Belgium gave him the title of Baron for his participation to international scientific institutions where he represented Belgium as expert in nuclear safety,  and also for his works on turbomachinery and his scientific articles.

Baron André Jaumotte was vice-chairman of the von Karman Institute Board of Directors from 1991 to 1993. As from 1993 until 2005 he was elected as chairman. Then he remained on the Board and was entitled honorary chairman in recognition for his exceptional contributions to the von Karman Institute. He continued to attend the meeting of the Board until the end.
